New rideshare app Sitbaq gets rolling in Bay Area as Uber HQ scrambles

*Update 3.7.2018: As noted in the comments section below, it appears the Sitbaq app is currently not working. I’ll update here if I can figure out why.*

If the list of Uber execs leaving the company shown in today’s NY Times Bits update is any indicator, things are tumultuous at Uber HQ right now:

The #DeleteUber movement is in full swing, so the market seems ripe for another alternative to Uber.

Did I break the law in Switzerland, or am I getting scammed by Hertz?

Six months after renting a car from the Hertz location at Zurich International Airport, I received a mysterious $49 bill on my credit card.

The bill is apparently for the cost of Hertz providing my name and address to authorities for a traffic violation:

That email with my name & address must’ve taken quite some time to write if it costs $49, but I’m not really surprised by that.

Not seeing your Fairmont certificates? It takes a little jolt

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I joined the hoard of people signing up for Chase’s Fairmont credit card this year before Chase closed the application.

The card comes with several different “certificates” that are supposed to expire and renew on March 1 every year.

Apparently they don’t renew automatically for everybody.

Mine didn’t show up on my account until today, when I called up Fairmont. Continue reading
