With the revamp of the Uber app late last year, Uber took away its awesome spending portal that allowed you to earn Uber credits when using your linked Visa card for spend at local stores and restaurants.

Well, it’s finally back.

How is it better this time?

There are way more businesses participating this time.

 

Also, you don’t have to opt in to each business you want to earn at.

Just opt in to the program from within your Uber app, and use one of the Visa cards attached to your Uber profile:

How is it worse this time?

The earning rate last time was 40% cash-back in Uber credit at some businesses, whereas this time 10% appears to be the best.

I couldn’t find any terms excluding the purchase of gift cards, but it does appear that each merchant has its own terms:

I have yet to test this program to confirm it works as well as it did last year, but I’ll update this post when I do.

There’s no mention of which markets Local Offers is available in, so please comment if you do/don’t have success finding it.

It works. I purchased and loaded a public transit card for $53 at Walgreens, in addition to a $25 Starbucks gift card, and was instantly notified of my 10% back in Uber credit earnings:

I write this in complete good humor, because I love DOC: It took exactly 24 hours for Doctor of Credit readers to kill the option to earn rewards on gift cards with this program (I’m one of those readers).

Gift card purchases are now excluded from this program, as DOC reports.
